I am so happy I found this practice! Do not believe the negative reviews. The staff go out of their way to help you and the new doctors are simply wonderful. They are fair and transparent with costs.

So far our experience at Hoboken Vets has been great. My dog gets seriously anxious in vets' offices since she had surgery a few years ago, but she was treated with that in mind, which I appreciated. They also allowed me to be in the room with her the entire time during her annual exam, which makes a huge difference (she's a nervous girl, especially when I'm not around). The other thing that I appreciated is that they didn't try to "upsell" to me (aside from simply asking if I wanted to get flea meds, etc., through them, which is fine). That's important--I stopped going to several other vets because they either sold (expensive) stuff my dog didn't need, or, worse, tried to push completely unnecessary tests and procedures. I love my dog, and I'll always give her what she needs, but some of the "suggestions" were just ludicrous (that was mostly at the place on Washington Street). When her lab results came in, I got an email with a very detailed explanation of them, and another one after I responded with some questions. And the staff was very pleasant. So far, so good!

Took out dog to this clinic for a routine shot and our dog landed in the ER. Do not trust these people with your animals.

As I write this review and read other feedback, I can’t say I’m surprised to see significant negative reviews for Hoboken Vet Animal Clinic. There is also a sign in the waiting room asking clients to provide feedback in person rather than online, which struck me as unusual. My wife and I brought our French Bulldog, Lou, here for over three years, but after a recent experience we will not be returning. About two weeks ago, Lou appeared to injure his back/spine after jumping over a pile of snow. After more than a week of rest and pain medication, he seemed to be improving. However, over the last few days he regressed and ultimately lost feeling in both legs and could not walk. We scheduled an appointment and rushed him in hoping for guidance and a clear plan. When we arrived, we immediately explained that Lou couldn’t walk and that we were extremely concerned. Despite that, staff insisted we place him on the scale to get a current weight. We asked whether this was necessary given his condition, but were told they “like to have current weight on file.” After we explained we couldn’t safely do that, we were taken to an exam room. We then spent about 10 minutes walking through the full timeline and symptoms in detail while the vet took notes. Shortly afterward, the vet returned with another employee who opened with, “Tell me about Lou,” and then asked why he was there—essentially requiring us to repeat the entire explanation we had just given, while Lou was clearly in distress on the table. Eventually, we were told we needed to see a neurologist (which we understood), but the interaction lacked the empathy and urgency we expected in that moment. It felt transactional, not like a team focused on an injured animal and worried owners. Before we left, staff also attempted to sell us a physical even though Lou had one two months ago and they had the records, and they again tried to weigh him. Overall, I’m extremely disappointed by the lack of concern and compassion shown to Lou and to us during a stressful, time-sensitive situation. If you’re looking for a clinic that communicates clearly, shows empathy, and helps you feel supported when your pet is in trouble, this was not our experience here.
