Horrified and traumatized Does not even begin to explain the experience that I had at the newly taken over practice of Dr. Barry. I have been a loyal patient of this practice for over eight years. I made an appointment to come in to get paperwork signed so that my dog fly with me Out of state as my father was very ill and needing a major surgery and I was not sure how long I was going to be staying out of state when I booked the appointment the purpose of my appointment- Was to have this paperwork filled out for the airline. I arrived at my appointment time I was left in a room for close to two hours. That is when they're so called " vet" Dr. Lee -I don't think any of the people here are Veterinarians by the way. She came in and apologized to me that she was caught up on a WebEx. Was all frazzled and proceeded to do the examination. At this point, my dog had had enough I needed to be at the airport. I was stressed out. The dog was stressed out my 10 pound Maltese, who is the most docile. Smoosh of an animal.. Showed her teeth at this new vet. Dr Lee started screaming I need back up get the party hat, a.k.a. muzzle. Which proceeded to have four people run in the room hold down my 10 pound dog and muzzle her multiple times at one point she opened the door to another room and a giant dog came running in from the other examination room. I was only complying with everything that was going on as I had to be at the airport to be with my father after the examination. I was told that they do not fill out these paperwork for Airlines that they are not accredited veterans. And then I would need to go and find an accredited veterinarian. I said you guys are a big practice you mean to tell me there's no one in this group that can sign this paperwork. They told me no they charged me for an examination. I asked if it could be that money could be used for the annual exam They told me no. They printed off something from the Internet they gave me no recommendation where to get the Paperwork signed. I got charged close to $200 for an examination for I don't know what???? I paid the bill because I wanted to get out of there. As I was walking out, I said the least you can do is please refill my next guard medication and I was told have Costco call them A few weeks later, I went to Costco and asked them to please call the vet to get my refill. This proceeded of weeks of back-and-forth between Costco and the vet veterinarian because none of the veterinarians there had any NPI numbers. The office could not provide any NPI numbers and none of vets in practice where showing up in the Costco Vet medical database. This eventually ended with the owner of the practice who lives somewhere in New York. Calling in the script so that the medication could be filled!! I have no clue what kind of practice they're running over there, but it is an utter disgrace!!

UPDATE 4/8/2026 After expressing my disinterest in staying with MAH, the doctor reached out and explained what had happened and she fully understood why I was very upset. I explained that $500 was a lot of money for an annual checkup and also I felt $285 was a fair deal. After listening to me she waived the additional $205 charge and indicated that she will provides estimates to her clients from this point forward so there won't be any "sticker shock". This getsure has prompted me to remain with MAH. INITIAL REVIEW 4/7/2026 Very disappointed!! I went to MAH unaware that Dr Barry retired. When I arrived I realized something happened because the place was freshly painted. When I checked in, the individual sitting behind the counter was someone I didn't recognize and then the tech came thru the door who I didn't recognize either. Finally got into the room and it was an annual checkup but he had a thing with his ears. They gave him all of the shots he was due, did bloodwork and gave him momentax for his ears. They charged me $283, which I thought was respectable considering everything that was performed. I looked into getting him Simparica Trio from an online source and found a great price. The company contacted MAH and originally the tech told the company the bloodwork (heartworm test) was never done. I called MAH and questioned that and learned that the results never transfered into my dog's file. I called the company I'm purchsing the prescription from and explained what happened. We were all good. Five minutes later I received a call from MAH stating that I never paid for the bloodwork, which is an additional $205. $500 for an annual visit with the addition of an ear infection? No thanks! Called them and asked for his files to be sent to East Brunswick AH. I was hoping it wasn't so but it appears all of the other reviews are correct. C'est La Vie! One door closes and another opens.

DR BARRY KOPP HAS RETIRED ...NEWLY OWNED PRACTICE ...Beware they are extremely high priced and once your in for any reason they wont look at your pet without shots, blood work etc so be prepared to spend A LOT OF MONEY ...even if you don't want to do any of these things they won't look at your pet once your there and at this point they know they got you ....WE ALL MISS DR BARRY he has finally retired he had an amazing second hand help Nicole (Red) once Dr Barry retired they fired her and 90 percent of the clients left. Her and Dr Barry always went above and beyond ..the new owners are nasty EXTREMELY OVER PRICED ..another client that left recomeded Home Vet to me and they are a lot like Dr Barry service. EVERYONE LOVED DR BARRY....

PLEASE READ TILL THE END ....THIS WASssss the best ...WHEN Dr Barry owned it ....New owners deserve not one start review ..... This WAS the best Veterinarian practice WHEN Dr Barry Kopp owned the practice. He was a old school vet that was loved by all his clients and 4 paws patients. I been going to Dr Barry for over 15 years. He spent endless days and nights accommodating as many as he could. I never went to bed wondering about lab work or test results. Dr Barry didn't t care what time he went home he made sure he returned and called everyone that was waiting on a call. He never over charged his clients and always proceeded cautiously before putting anyone through unnecessary expenses on guess work. Well let me just say he is so dearly missed but he definitely earned his late retirement.HOWEVER with that being said let me warn all that stumble upon this newly owned practice because I already saw so many of his clients leave right after him. I had several horrible experiences with Dr Petrone . She is rude, cold, and above all money hungry. She does not give one care about your pet. Her service and practice is horrible. Not only does she charge as much as an emergency vet for no.emergency stuff but she has the audacity to criticize Dr Barry to HIS CLIENTS. SHE BOUGHT A PRACTICE A VERY WELL ESTABLISHED PRACTICE ONLY THING IS MOST OF THE CLIENTS LEFT AFTER THEIR FIRST Encounter WITH HER. Dr Petrone has no problem over charging , putting you and your pet through unnecessary testing and expenses and yet she wants nothing to do with you after and wants to emails you results because feels your not even entities to s phone call. If your pet has any issue she will put you through every possible expense and not stop even if the results are satisfying she keeps going. I will say that I did give her numerous chances and she failed everyone. Just to give you and example of how costly she is My mini dachshund had 5 loose teeth pulled and she charged $900 and that did not include the $400 pre blood work that she quoted me $200 for. Thinking I wouldn't question the overcharge. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A OLD SCHOOL VET THAT TAKES THE TIME WITH YOU AND YOUR FUR BABY AND IS Extremely affordable call Home Vet in Belford Dr Droz is amazing and thank god I found her . IF YOU WANT A MONEY GREEDY INSENSITIVE VET THAN Petrone is for you.

This practice is just wonderful. Our pup Charlie had sudden swelling on his snout & my husband rushed him to this particular vet due to proximity to our home. I am so thankful he did! We moved a few months ago, so we did not officially switch to a closer vet & they took Charlie first thing, without him being an established patient. They got to the root of the issue immediately & diagnosed him, later treating Charlie via tooth removal surgery 2 weeks later after treating his infection. Just to note- Charlie is also extremely anxious & they treated him with such special care. They even followed up with my husband the day after Charlie’s surgery to check on our little guy. We officially switched to this vet & are so glad! Dr. Elaina Petrone - you are an angel! ♥️
